The Late Tukini Cama

One of greatest and legendary radio personalities in the 1990s and early 2000s, Tukini Cama will be laid to rest in Vuci, Tokatoka, Tailevu this Saturday after his passing on Sunday night following a short illness.

Cama will be remembered by many on FM96 as he was also one of the announcers that transformed breakfast radio in the 1990s in Fiji.

Communications Fiji Limited Chairman and founder, William Parkinson who was the Managing Director when Tukini was on-air on FM96, says everyone is saddened to hear about Tukini’s passing.

He says Tukini can only be described as a phenomenon.

Parkinson says Tukini did the mid morning show and introduced talkback at the time on FM96 before moving to the breakfast show.

He says Tukini had tremendous presence, always ready to challenge boundaries and never afraid to take on an argument on and off air.

Parkinson says it was always an adventure when you would spend time with Tukini.

CFL General Manager and former Programmes Director of FM96, Charles Taylor says Tukini was a true professional and brought a lot of energy and passion, mastering the equipment to deliver the best radio show possible.

Ratu Kinijoji Rayacarogo George Cama, known to many as Tukini Cama, attended Stella Maris Primary School and briefly attended St.John’s College, Cawaci before completing his secondary education at Marist Brothers High School.

He started his career with Westpac Bank before joining FM96.

Tukini then contributed and often volunteered to many causes including the work of the Archdiocese of Suva, assisting with communications for SODELPA and was host of the talk show Current Affairs on Mai TV.

In accordance with his life and family wishes, there will be no traditional "reguregu" gathering.

For any messages, cards or gifts, the family kindly request that these be delivered to the MaiTV office at Spring Street, Toorak.

Tukini’s Resurrection Mass will be held at 10am Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Nausori.

The Post-Burial Gathering will be held at the Nausori Parish Hall.
