Transport industry braces itself for fuel price increase

The Transport Industry is bracing itself for huge increase in fuel prices from tomorrow.

The Fiji Bus Operators Association said they are ready to absorb the increase as no further submissions will be made to the government to cushion the effects of the increase.

However, Fiji Taxi Union general secretary, Rishi Ram said he will write to the Transport Minister and LTA Board requesting them to consider the earlier submission for the survival of taxi industry.

Price of motor spirit will increase by 16 cents and the new price will be $2.37 per liter while the price of diesel will cost $2.07, an increase of 12 cents per liter.

Premix outboard fuel price will increase by 20cents per liter which will cost $2.33 from tomorrow and kerosene will cost $1.68, an increase of 11 cents.

The only reason for the increase in petroleum price is the world market price movement which has been a result of strong demand from Europe and North America which are experiencing winter season now.
