The government is now analysing whether the individuals and companies who come into the country to hold trade shows are fully declaring the income earned here and whether they are paying the required amount of taxes.
Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the trade shows are becoming a concern as these individuals are basically retailing goods in the name of trade shows.
He said there are a number of anomalies and the issue needs to be addressed urgently.
Sayed-Khaiyum said based on a number of issues, the government has made the decision to restrict all trade shows in the country until further notice.
He also said the issue of consumer protection needs to be looked at, as the retailers leave the country after selling the goods.
