It is time to refocus for the Vodafone Fiji 7s team after we were thumped by South Africa in the Wellington 7s semifinal.

The 31-0 score-line is the highest ever for Fiji.

Questions have been raised on where is Fiji’s aggressive defence and there are also worrying signs that Fiji could not match the speed of the South Africans.

Restarts were also a major concern in the tournament as Fijian jumpers could not get clean takes from kick offs.

Vodafone Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan said after the semifinal that the players were disappointed regarding some of the calls made against them in the semifinal.

South Africa ran away with four unanswered tries.

Ryan says they will learn from this loss heading into the Sydney 7s this weekend.

Ryan adds that it was not only their discipline that cost them the game.

Fiji beat England 21-12 in the third place play off.

New Zealand successfully defended their title after defeating South Africa 24-21 in a tough final last night.

Looking at the series standings, South Africa leads the table with 54, Fiji is in second place with 52, New Zealand jumped from 7th to 3rd place with 47 points while England and Argentina are in fourth place with 41 points.

Looking at the Sydney 7s draws, Fiji is pooled with Samoa, Argentina and France.

Looking at the other pools, Wellington 7s champion New Zealand is drawn with host Australia, Canada and Portugal.

Series leader South Africa is pooled with Kenya, Scotland and Russia.

England is in Pool D with USA, Japan and Wales.

The Sydney 7s will be held this Saturday and Sunday.
