Three families homeless after separate fire incidents

Three families are homeless after their houses were destroyed in separate fire incidents.

In the first incident, seven people are homeless after their two-bedroom house was destroyed in a fire at Tamavua Village last night.

In the second fire incident, a family lost their home at Lololevu, Vatukoula in Tavua. According to the National Fire Authority, it is believed the family was attending a church service when the fire started.

In another incident on Sunday, a two-bedroom house in Bulileka, Labasa was destroyed in a fire. The house was vacant when the fire started and it is believed the owner of the house was in Suva.

NFA’s Chief Executive Officer, Puamau Sowane says they have recorded three residential fire cases within a span of 3 days and this raises a lot of concerns.

He says they have noticed that most fire incidents are electrical related and most of these incidents could have been prevented if people would have been conscious about fire safety related to electrical wiring and usage of electrical appliances in their homes.
