This is not the time to put firm dates on school reopening – Dr Jokhan

The Permanent Secretary for Education Dr Anjeela Jokhan says this is not the time to put firm dates on school reopening however the Ministry has also highlighted that schools are planned to open on May 24th pertaining to the approval of the Ministry of Health.

Dr Jokhan highlighted this when questioned on when will schools reopen as a few schools are being used for quarantine isolation facilities.

She says the priority right now is to make sure that we get over the situation that we are facing due to the current COVID cases out there which is changing on a daily basis.

Dr Jokhan also confirmed that two schools in the West and two in the Central Division are being used as quarantine isolation facilities. She says at this point in time, 20 schools are ready throughout the country in case they are needed to be used as isolation facilities.

Dr Jokhan says 3 schools are used for vaccination venues and four schools for screenings.
