Don’t say that all the civil servants should get the same pay rise.

This is not a charity.

Those are the words of Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Civil Service Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum at a civil servants roadshow after a Health Ministry worker said that they should be assessed and given recognition together.

The worker had said that they should all get the same pay increment, and that they are the ones who do all the dirty work.

Sayed-Khaiyum says that never before in the history of the civil service have people received a 74% pay rise.

He says not everybody should get the same pay rise as increments  will be based on performance.

Sayed-Khaiyum also says that every profession has its own challenges and the level of responsibility for different positions is different.

He also raised the question to the Health Ministry worker on who is held responsible when somebody dies in hospital if the worker is saying that the people who do the job are not the ministers or the permanent secretaries but the civil servants.

The Acting Prime Minister also said that he can take the worker to the hospitals and show him the current state of health services provided by the civil servants.

Sayed-Khaiyum says there are problems with the hospital operations.
