The Homecoming Music Festival became more than just a stage for live performances—it became a heartfelt celebration of a musical icon’s enduring legacy.

Among the many artists paying tribute to the late George ‘Fiji’ Veikoso was beloved Pacific Island singer Richard Parker, who shared with fijivillage News the emotional memories of his first meeting with the legendary artist.

Parker shared that when he first met Veikoso, his father received a call while in Samoa about 10 years ago.

Thinking it might have been a prank, Parker says he couldn’t believe Veikoso would call him up.

He says the meeting marked the beginning of a meaningful connection with one of the most influential figures in Pacific music.

Reflecting on Veikoso’s recent passing, Parker also expressed the deep sadness felt throughout the music community.

He says Veikoso was an icon who would always look out for all artists.

He added that there will never be another George ‘Fiji’ Veikoso.
