There is a shortage of concrete blocks in the country.

This was revealed by the Acting Prime Minister and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum in a press conference yesterday afternoon.

Sayed‑Khaiyum says that there are five major suppliers in the country but it should also be noted that some of these companies also export the blocks.

He says that the Government hopes to have a discussion with companies such as Basic Industries, Pioneer Concrete and Dragon’s Furniture Sponge Fiji Limited in a couple of weeks to see that they can provide a focus on supplying the local market first.

He says the issues of timber, steel and corrugated iron is sorted out.

Companies such as Kasabias, Dayal’s Quarries Limited, Refrigeration Electrical Services Limited, CBS Power Solutions, Keshwan Raju Trading and Haroon’s Hardware are listed for phase two.
