There has been no commitment from the government towards the Fiji Cancer Society until now and this has been a concern because we are a Non-Government Organisation.

This was highlighted by the Fiji Cancer Society Clinical Nurse Karolina Tamani during the fijivillage Straight Talk with Vijay Narayan.

Tamani says funds received to operate and implement plans is made possible through the generous donations from corporate bodies and in-kind assistance from the people of Fiji.

Tamani says the good news is that during the Pinktober launch the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, has committed to assist next year, which she is grateful for.

The Clinical Nurse says they need to have referral centres where patients are referred promptly because delays can cost lives and they do not want any women or men to lose lives because of cancer.

She further says the government needs to commit to assisting the Fiji Cancer Society and other organisations providing cancer-related services as this affects majority of us and it is time to come together and discuss about this.
