NFA plans to expand its service in the maritime islands

The role of firemen and firewomen needs to be continuously re-oriented from firefighting to fire prevention.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Local Government, Premila Kumar during the launch of the NFA's strategic plan for 2021-2026.

She says NFA has only two fire stations outside of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu located in Levuka and Taveuni.

Kumar says their future plan is to spread out the services to the maritime islands that have government centres such as Kadavu, Lakeba and Rotuma.

She adds the new Nabouwalu fire station in the Northern Division will be the latest addition which will increase the total number of fire stations to 21 when it is opened for operation.
