Minister for Defense and Veteran Affairs Pio Tikodudua

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces will be involved in the fight against drugs in Fiji as a support role and not as a primary actor, and the institution will protect the very fabric of our society, as it stands ready to act whenever the welfare of the people is at risk.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Defense and Veteran Affairs Pio Tikodudua during a press conference at the Government Building today.

Tikoduadua says deploying the military is a serious decision and must be used as a last resort in situations where civilian mechanisms have been fully utilized and found insufficient.

He says the RFMF has always been a pillar of stability for the nation, but its involvement issues must remain exceptional, not routine.

Tikoduadua says the approach has helped to reinforce the professional and apolitical nature of the military, which remains one of the most respected institutions in Fiji.
