Teachers play a vital role in creating peace in society

Teachers are the core part of the education of our future generation, and they play a vital role in creating peace not only in the classroom but in our society as a whole.

While speaking at the Talanoa session held today at the City Carnegie Library, American Corner, Tacirua Primary School teacher Aisea Vosailagi says teachers have the power to convince, change and motivate children for peace.

Vosailagi says children spend most of their time with teachers rather than with their parents, therefore, teachers can instil the value of peace to students when they are in the classroom.

Council of the Pacific Education General Secretary Neselinda Meta says learning for peace, values, attitudes, skills, and behaviour empowers them to serve as catalysts for peace in their communities.

Meta says the foundation of peace, just and sustainable societies is laid through education.

She says education initiatives have a proven potential to help marginalised populations gain access to justice that contributes to a peaceful society.

Meanwhile, more than 20 teachers and youths were part of the 6th International Day of Education.
