There are still issues with the number of Maths, Science and Technical teachers and the Minister for Education, Rosy Akbar says  teacher positions in schools are being filled progressively and they have also re-engaged retired teachers and continue to hire teacher graduates.

Akbar says they have begun the process and the Ministry is in the final stages of completing their recruitment for the school year.

Akbar also says that they are addressing the issues relating to some schools having a shortage of teachers for technical subjects.

Akbar also says they will soon hire 30 retired teachers as counselors who will work with the National Substance Abuse Advisory Council.

While speaking at the Prefects Investiture Ceremony at Nasinu Muslims College, Akbar says these counselors will be working to address issues such as drug abuse, bullying, harassment and teenage pregnancy.

Akbar says they will be sending out Expressions of Interest soon.

The Minister adds that they need the experience of these teachers.
