Taxi Fares To Decrease On Valentines Day
Taxi fares will decrease on Valentine's Day.

The deadline for all taxi operators to adjust their metres to the new flagfall rate has been extended for nine days from this Thursday.

Transport Ministry Spokesperson, Sainiana Waqainabete said the Interim Minister, Timoci Natuva made the decision after reviewing the Fiji Taxi Union's proposal asking for a deferment in dates.

Waqainabete said Natuva took into account that there are around 5,000 taxi operators and came to the conclusion that more than three days is needed to adjust the metres.

She said the Fiji Taxi Union had asked for time up until the 28th of February however Natuva chose the 14th saying this is enough time for all taxi operators to adjust, seal and register their metres with the Land Transport Authority.

From Valentine's Day, February 14th, the flag fall rate of taxi fares will be from $1.50 to $1 from 6am to 10pm and $2 to $1.50 from 10pm to 6am.
