Talei saves the day

The Flying Fijians led Japan 20 - 14 at half time, but Ilivasi Tabua's men were completely stunned by the agressive approach by the Japanese in the second spell.

The Cherry Blossoms took Fiji by surprise after they crossed the line just minutes into the match only being denied a try as the ball was knocked-on, on the Fijian try line.

The John Kirwan coached side then went on to score two tries in the first half while Fiji's points came from a try to Nemia Kenatale and four penalty kicks from Seremaia Bai while, Vereniki Goneva crossed over at the stroke of half time to give Fiji the lead.

Japan went on to score three more tries in the second half while Sireli Ledua scored for Fiji before Talei saved the day scoring the last try with only 10 seconds left on the clock.

Fiji defeated Japan 40 - 39 to finish second on the PNC table.

Speaking to Fijivillage sports soon after the match, the man who scored the winning try Netani Talei was emotional with the win and paid credit to his side for not giving up till the end.
