A Tailevu man who raped and assaulted an 18-year-old woman has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by the Suva High Court.
He was charged with one count of rape and one count of assault with intent to commit rape.
The incidents happened on 1st January this year in Tailevu.
The woman was raped by the man as she washed dishes outside her father’s house.
It was heard in court that the man dragged her to a nearby bush and assaulted her before committing the offence.
The 18-year-old woman tried to scream but man closed her mouth.
A non parole period of 8 years has been set.
