Taf'aga Outrigger Canoe Club is having their first suavak or paddle your canoe race to get their junior development members get acclimatized to a race type of environment.

Club Treasurer, Simione Bereso highlighted this at the National Canoe Centre.

Bereso says it was just supposed to be a competition within their club but they decided to open it up to outside clubs as well.

He says they have participants from Vai Outrigger Canoe Club, USP Islanders and one that just came in for the race this morning from Nadi Bay Canoe Club.

Bereso says they have up to thirty junior development paddlers in the Club with fifteen competing today.

There were cash prizes up for grabs in all the categories for the under 15 and under 19 boys and girls, novice men and women and then the open men and women.

Bereso adds this is just the first of many races to come this year.
