Pacific Sprint King Banuve Tabakaucoro says he hopes borders will open soon so that they can go overseas and compete.

Banuve highlighted this during the Athletics Fiji Competition at the ANZ Stadium today and adds athletes have been away from the tracks for long and have been mostly doing individual training for almost a year.

Former Fiji middle-distance runner, Isireli Naikelekelevesi who represented Fiji in the Summer Olympics in 1996, 2000 and 2004 and in several South Pacific Games also took part in the Athletics Fiji Competition today.

Naikelekelevesi who last represented Fiji in 2011 South Pacific Games says he wanted to be part of the competition to promote athletics as Papua New Guinea is seen to have taken over this sport in the Pacific Games.

Athletics Fiji President, Vuli Waqa says the main aim of this competition is to keep track of athletes’ fitness.
