Suspended police officer further remanded in custody for alleged accident near Navua Bridge

The Navua Magistrates Court has further remanded a suspended police officer in custody who allegedly caused an accident on Queens Highway near the Navua Bridge on Sunday night.

Makario Ulavucu has been charged with a count each of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

The court was told that Ulavucu was on bail for a drunk and drive case and has now committed similar kind of offence.

The matter will be called again next Wednesday.

A three-month-old baby remains admitted in the CWM Hospital after sustaining serious injuries in the accident.

The three-month-old child’s mother and grandparents have been discharged from the hospital.

The four were on their way from Suva to Lautoka when their vehicle was allegedly hit by another vehicle from the back.

Ulavucu who is alleged to have caused this accident was heavily intoxicated.
