The potential of a Super W/Aupiki crossover competition was flagged at the end of last year when the future of Super Rugby Pacific was confirmed.

Rugby Australia CEO, Andy Marinos, highlighted this after a growth in their domestic competition currently involving the five Australian clubs and Fijiana Drua.

When asked about how soon this could happen, Marinos says at a worse case, next year.

He also says Rugby Australia is working closely with World Rugby as part of an overall strategic view that they have done into the women’s program and how they can invest additional money into competition structures which will be part of the high-performance piece from World Rugby.

The CEO adds when all those pieces come together, they will certainly be solidifying those plans around where Super W goes.

He further adds a strong competitive Super W program makes a stronger Wallaroos and that is definitely something that they look forward to seeing in the future.
