All students must make their way to school today for Fiji Day celebrations as no schools will be closed.
This is the message from Education Permanent Secretary Filipe Jitoko after yesterday's early closure of schools following the tsunami warning.
Jitoko said today Fiji Day celebrations will be taking place in individual schools as the Ministry wants the focus to be on Fiji's independence as well as education.
He said every school has been told to have special events planned for the day and students have to be in school.
Fiji gained independence in 1970.
The Fiji Day celebrations, with the theme "Educating Fiji towards Change, Peace and Progress" will be held simultaneously throughout the country and expected to cost the Government $40,000, will see marches and assemblies organized in schools as well as cities and towns around the country.
Bole said in Suva, students, education stakeholders, the RFMF, Fiji Police and National Youth Bands will begin their march at 9am from Victoria Parade to Albert Park while at the same time in Labasa, their march will begin from Macuata House to St Mary's school ground.
Meanwhile, Fiji's Old Capital, Levuka has a whole lot of activities planned for today as villagers gear up for Fiji Day celebrations.
A villager from Toki village in Levuka, Ilaitia Lewanavanua said children are enjoying the carnival organized in Levuka.
