A student from a prominent school in Ovalau was found in possession of a branch of leaves believed to be marijuana, two weeks ago and is now under investigation.

Police say she is also undergoing counselling.

The Ministry of Education states that 1.7 percent of Fiji’s 207,000 registered student population have been involved in drug-related cases—amounting to approximately 3,519 students.

The Fiji Police Force reveals that a total of 1,047 cases of unlawful possession of illicit drugs were recorded in the first seven months of this year alone.
