Strong winds and heavy rain is currently affecting the northern division.
We’ve received calls from residents in Dreketi, Labasa and Nabouwalu who said they have been experiencing very strong winds and heavy rain which started this morning.
The Nadi weather forecasters said a trough of low pressure lies slow moving over the northern and eastern parts of the group.
Periods of rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Northern Lau and northern Lomaiviti Group and northern Viti Levu is forecasted to midnight tomorrow.
Flooding of low lying areas likely.
Rain expected to ease tonight.
NaDraki weather forecaster Neville Coop said they have received reports of some damages in the north.
The weather forecasters said the tropical depression has drifted to the south of Tonga however the trough associated with this depression is affecting us which is causing strong winds and heavy rain mostly in the north, Taveuni, Lomaiviti and Lau Group
At this stage a tropical cyclone forming is not expected.
Also the Tropical Cyclone Jasmine affecting Australia is not expected to affect us.
