A strong wind warning remains in force for the whole of the Fiji group.
The Nadi Weather Office said a tropical depression lies slow moving south of Fiji.
Meanwhile, an active trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain remains slow moving over the group.
Nadi Weather Office director Alipate Waqaicelua said the strong winds being experienced are due to rain bands and the strong wind warning in force for the whole Fiji Group.
Strong northerly winds with speeds of up to 55km/hour gusting to 90km/hour will be experienced and the Nadi Weather Office said there will be periods of rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms over most places.
For Navua, Suva, Nausori, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Labasa and Savusavu, periods of rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms.
A strong wind warning remains for Rotuma waters.
Waqaicelua said the rain and strong winds will continue throughout today.
There is no tropical cyclone in the group and the depression currently located south of Fiji is moving away from Fiji and is not expected to form into a tropical cyclone.
However, people are advised that there will be heavy rain and flooding of low lying areas is expected.
