The woman who stowed away on a Fiji Airways flight in a failed attempt to get to Australia will not be charged.

Samoa’s Commissioner of Police and Prisons Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo highlighted this during an interview with BenarNews.

The Police Commissioner says they are putting the onus on authorities to explain the failure in airport security.

Filipo says the flight attendants discovered the woman asleep in the aircraft’s lavatory in December.

He says the woman wanted to board a flight to Australia from Fiji without any documents and falsely claimed that she was an Australian citizen.

He adds they are focusing more on how this 24-year-old woman skipped airport security and immigration.

The Samoan Police Commissioner says he cannot fathom how the woman managed to get on the aircraft with several airport security working on the day in question.

While Fiji Airways has imposed a worldwide ban on the woman, the Police Commissioner says this will prevent the woman from boarding any of its flights.

The preliminary investigations have found that the woman was bored looking after young relatives and decided to go overseas.
