Stakeholders to conduct assessment of sugar cane farm damages by this week

Stakeholders will be making thorough assessment of sugar cane farm damages in Nadi, Tavua, Ba and Rakiraki this week following recent flooding.

Sugarcane Growers Fund CEO Raj Sharma confirmed this to fijivillage News, saying that they have begun visiting some of the affected areas.

When asked about relief packages, Sharma says no rehabilitation package has been activated yet, but district officers are on standby to provide assistance.

He further says that the extent of the damage has not being identified.

Sharma says drainage remains a significant issue for sugarcane farms, and concerns have been raised with the Ministry of Waterways and the Drainage Board.

The CEO adds that some cane access roads have also sustained damage.
