The position of the Fiji Sports Council Chief Executive Officer will be advertised, and Council Chairman, Gilbert Vakalalabure will act as Acting CEO in the interim.

Vakalalabure says he is looking forward to seeing the transformation in how the Council conducts its business, as well integrating more sporting activities into our venues.

The new members of the Fiji Sports Council Executive Board are Chairman Vakalalabure; Deputy Chairman, Peter Mazey; Board Secretary, Joseva Sania; Nouzab Fareed; Della Shaw Elder; Rajesh Singh; Peniasi Sokia; Semesa Karavaki; Permanent Secretary for Finance, Shiri Gounder; and Permanent Secretary for Youth and Sports, Rovereto Nayacalevu.

Speaking in his capacity as Chairman, Vakalalabure says the Members of the Executive Board will be guided by the organization’s strategic mission and policies to achieve, as a team, newer and more profitable endeavours.

Vakalalabure acknowledged the outgoing Board of Directors, who had been at the helm since 2010, led by former Chairman Peter Mazey.

The Fiji Sports Council, under the outgoing Board, was responsible for implementing key capital projects that included the upgrade of the National Stadium, re-development of the Vodafone Arena, FMF Gymnasium, the building of the Council head office, and the upgrade of Lawaqa Park, including the current refurbishment of the Aquatic Centre and National Hockey Centre.

Vakalalabure also acknowledged the demise of past members of the Executive Board – Major Samisoni Kafoa (2015), Malakai Veisamasama (2016), Vijendra Sundar (2020), and Colin Philp (2021), and their contributions.
