Speeding cases account for nearly all traffic offences
A total of 2,670 traffic offences have been recorded in the last two weeks around the country.

Out of this, 2,519 were speeding cases alone.

Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro said speeding on our roads is once again becoming a major concern due to high number of bookings done over the last 24 hours around the country.

The latest traffic operation recorded 246 bookings for speeding alone as well as other traffic infringements such as careless driving.

In the last two weeks, seven arrests were made for drunk and drive cases.

Meanwhile, a four-year-old girl was hit by a vehicle yesterday morning when she allegedly crossed the road.

The incident occurred when the victim was walking with her mother along a footpath in Valelevu when she allegedly left her mother’s hand and crossed to the other side of the road.

She was taken to the CWM hospital and is admitted in stable condition.

The road death toll currently stands at 40 compared to 40 for the same period last year.
