Specialized hilly terrain cane harvester will soon arrive in Fiji as part of a research and development project under the Sugar Research Institute of Fiji due to the lack mechanical harvesters suitable for sloped and rugged farming areas, causing difficulties for farmers in places like Drumasi, Malele, and Dovata.

Minister Charan Jeath Singh says that the purpose of this initiative is to test the harvester’s performance under local conditions and explore adaptations for broader use.

While responding to the criticisms, he says his trips are focused on securing solutions, partnerships, and technologies for farmers.

Singh encourages farmers to stay optimistic and united as the Government continues to invest in innovation to support the sugar industry.
