Some real progress expected soon as far as Aust-Fiji relations are concerned
There is expected to be some real progress soon as far as Australia-Fiji relations are concerned.

Fijivillage has contacted Australia's new Foreign Minister, Julie Bishop and she is expected to make some announcements after holding some initial discussions.

Meanwhile, Bishop told the Australian that said she is looking forward to commencing discussions with Fiji on how relations could be normalised as soon as possible.

Bishop said this will be dependent on Fiji holding elections and they are scheduled for the middle of 2014.

She said Australia hopes to work with Fiji in the period up to the elections to ensure they are free and fair.

Bishop said she has already had very productive discussions with Fiji's Foreign Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola.

The new government had earlier announced that they will also review the effectiveness of the sanctions against Fiji that have been in place since 2006.
