Some hotel operators may shutdown in a few weeks time for a period of 2 months because of the low number of tourist arrivals in the country caused by the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Attorney General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says they are getting reports and are having conversations with hotel operators and some of them say they will shut down this week.

He says individual hotels are making their own decisions.

Sayed-Khaiyum says some hotels have engaged in only having skeleton staff.

He says further assessment will be made and hotels will be making decisions based on this.
