Single use plastic bags banned at ANZ Stadium from today

People are advised to leave the single use plastic bags in the bins before entering the ANZ Stadium as all single use plastic bags are banned at the stadium from today.

While speaking at the launch, Fiji Sports Council CEO, Litiana Loabuka says this action has been taken to discourage people from using single use plastic bags and to create a safer and cleaner environment.

She says there has been no decision made on whether there will be fines imposed on the people who will bring in single use plastic bags in the stadium.

Loabuka says it has also been a growing concern by the council that an increased number of single use plastic bags are left in the stadium after an event.

She says plastic bags are sometimes found in the corners of the stadium and drains which is not only difficult to remove but it also affects the entire operation of the stadium.

Loabuka says there are specially designed plastic collection bins that are placed outside and around the stadium from today to encourage spectators to throw their plastic bags before entering the stadium.
