Sewage leak near Coronation Park poses health and environmental risks in Lautoka

Serious concerns are being raised as raw sewage has been overflowing from a manhole near Coronation Park in Lautoka, posing significant health risks.

While speaking to fijivillage News, a concerned resident says the sewage is spilling into a drain that goes through the city and into the sea.

The resident who captured a video of the incident says the situation poses serious health and environmental risks, especially since there is a church, a children’s play area, and an eatery next to the drain where the sewage is running through.

They say the spill has been ongoing for over a week without being fixed, despite the obvious public health hazard and the foul odour affecting the area.

When questioned, the Water Authority of Fiji confirmed that their team is looking into the issue but has yet to provide an update on when it will be resolved.
