Severe thunderstorm warning for Southern and Western half of Viti Levu

A severe thunderstorm warning for heavy rain is now in force for Southern Viti Levu from Serua, Namosi through to Navua, and the Western half of Viti Levu from Rakiraki to Ba, Lautoka to Sigatoka, and the interior parts.

The Fiji Meteorological Office in Nadi says people are being advised to keep clear of flooded creeks and drains, don't walk, ride bikes or drive through flood waters, unplug computers and appliances, stay indoors away from windows and keep children and pets indoors as well and stay vigilant and monitor conditions.

They say a trough of low pressure lies just to the north of Fiji and continues to drift south, over the group.

Associated cloud and showers are expected to affect parts of the country until later today.

The Nadi Weather Office says another weak trough of low pressure is expected to develop over the eastern parts of the group from tomorrow.
