Service delivery by civil servants under spotlight

Service delivery by some civil servants still remains a concern.

This is after Fijivillage witnessed how some civil servants employed in an essential Ministry did not bother to pick up the telephone which was ringing for long.

The question that arises is what would have happened in case the call was from a member of the public in need of urgent help.

Fijivillage raised this with the Public Service Commission.

Permanent Secretary Parmesh Chand said this is also a concern to them and that is why they have hired the services of a specialized Customer Services Training Company to provide such training and are having ongoing training.

Chand said the Public Service Commission pays for such training and the various Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies only need to request them and the services of this Company will be made available.

This training has been so far provided to the CWM Hospital and Ministry of I-Taukei Affairs.

Meanwhile similar questions were raised with Health Minister Dr Neil Sharma who said they now have a complaints section in health centers and people who are not happy with the services provided at hospitals and health centers can lodge their complaints there.
