Second phase of Help for Homes initiative scheme launched
A Home destroyed by TC Winston.

The second phase of the Help for Homes intiative, the government’s Cyclone Winston Housing assistance scheme was launched in Nayavu village in Wainibuka today.

The government has spent $88 million so far to assist people living in cyclone affected areas and another $20 million was allocated in the 2016/2017 National Budget.

Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa says they are making sure that people understand what they are signing as they have already started prosecuting people who have made false declarations.

She says they are focusing on helping people that were not assisted in phase one of the intiative.

Vuniwaqa says hardware companies that did not perform well in the phase one of the Help Homes intiative have not been included in phase two.

Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum had revealed last month that Vinod Patel and R.C Manubhai are two of the companies who have not performed well and they will not be included in Phase 2 of the Help for Homes Initiative.

He had said that they have to pay an interest rate of 4% to the government.
