The Education Minister stressed their main priority is to decrease the number of school dropouts and pulling out three external examinations will help them achieve this goal.
Filipe Bole added there is no good reason to keep these examinations as several students are unable to attain higher education.
According to Bole the standard of Education will not be affected in any way as there are strong internal assessments in place for students which will test their capabilities.
However, Fiji Teachers Union General Secretary Agni Deo Singh believes pulling out the Fiji Junior Examination from the school curriculum is not a good move.
It was confirmed last week that the Fiji Intermediate Examination will be abolished next year while Fiji Eighth Year and Fiji Junior Certificate Examinations will be abolished by 2011.
