School dormitory destroyed in fire

Investigation into the Levuka Public School hostel dormitory fire this afternoon has started.

The corrugated iron and timber dormitory was completely destroyed by the fire while the students were at Nasau Park for their inter-house meet.

Earlier on:

A dormitory at the Levuka Public School hostel was destroyed earlier this afternoon after a fire started in the hostel at about 2pm.

Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro confirmed that a student was near the hostel when the fire started however she managed to escape from the area.

She is currently being interviewed by the police.

The LPS students were at Nasau Park for their inter-house meet when the fire started.

Fire fighters have managed to control the blaze.

The National Fire Authority said they received the call at about 1.30pm.

The Authority said no one was injured in the fire.

The NFA said the hostel for the boys and girls were both destroyed.
