15-year-old Salanieta Vereivalu has won gold in the Junior Girls Discus for Ratu Sukuna Memorial High School.
Vereivalu threw a distance of 34.59 metres.
She hails from Vatulele Village in Koro, Lomaiviti.
Vereivalu says with her busy schedule balancing studies and training, time management is vital and she manages it with dedication and sacrifice.
She also acknowledged the support of her parents, teachers, and colleagues, which she says has been instrumental in her success.
Ro Iliana Iranabulou of Suva Grammar School secured the silver medal with a throw of 31.62 metres, while Tanesa Areki of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School took bronze with a throw of 30.15 metres.
The 4x100 metres heats are currently underway, the 400 metres finals start at 3pm, and the 4x100 metres finals start at 4.15pm.
