Ruling on stay for extradition proceedings tomorrow
The Suva High Court will rule tomorrow whether it will allow a stay on the extradition proceedings of 61-year-old former Fiji citizen Aneal Maharaj.

Maharaj escaped from United States to Fiji earlier this year after allegedly defrauding the Nevada State of some US$9 million.

However, DPP lawyer Nancy Tikoisuva argued that stay on the extradition proceedings should have been filed when the matter was in the Magistrates Court.

High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar will rule on the stay application on Tuesday at 10am as Maharaj has been remanded in custody.

The alleged offence was committed between 1995 and 2004.
