Rule Of Law Sometimes Undermined-AG

Interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has made it clear to lawyers, judges and magistrates, that some of them only uphold the rule of the law when it suits their agenda.

In his closing address at the 10th Attorney General's Conference, Sayed-Khaiyum said such selective analysis and lack of candor actively undermine the rule of law.

Khaiyum said it is more dangerous to find judges and magistrates who, knowing that a ruling has not been overturned, speaks against or makes contrary statements against that decision.

Meanwhile, Fiji Law Society president Dor Sami Naidu said while complaints against lawyers are important and are being dealt with, there are more important issues that the Interim AG should worry about.
