The Sydney Roosters have moved up to fifth place in the NRL standings after defeating the Canterbury Bulldogs 22-16 last night.

Billy Smith, Sitili Tupouniua, Joseph Manu and Matt Ikuvalu collected a try each while Sam Walker's penalty goal in the 75th minute sealed the victory for the Roosters.

Bulldogs five-eighth Lachlan Lewis added some much needed attacking spark for the visitors scoring a double.

The other try for the Bulldogs came from Nick Meaney.

With eight rounds left for this season, Storm, the Rabbitohs and the Panthers are locked in with 28 points but due to points difference the defending champions are in first place.

The Panthers are second and the Rabbitohs are third.

The Sharks will face the Warriors at 6.05pm today.
