Ronaldo though leads the way in Champions League successes, winning the trophy five times compared to Messi's four.
Defending champions Bayern Munich are pooled with Atletico Madrid, Salzburg and Lokomotiv Moscow.
Real Madrid will face Shakhtar Donetsk, Inter Milan and Borussia Monchengladbach.
