Ro Teimumu refuses immunity offer

Rewa high chief Ro Teimumu Kepa has refused an offer from the DPP's office which would have given her immunity from prosecution on charges laid against her by the State.

Ro Teimumu is charged with inciting to disobedience of the law after she allegedly posted a statement on the internet calling for a meeting of the Methodist Church Conference in breach of the Public Emergency Regulation.

DPP John Rabuku and Ro Teimumu's lawyer Aseri Vakaloloma were in negotiations after an offer was made to Ro Teimumu that she would be granted immunity from prosecution and the charges against her would be dropped, if she gave a plain statement regarding her discussions with the members of the Methodist Church of Fiji to convene the Bose Ko Viti in Lomanikoro.

Soon after, Ro Teimumu pleaded not guilty to the charges laid against her.

The DPP's office will now submit disclosures to the defense counsel and the case has been adjourned to the 29th of this month when a hearing date is expected to be set.
