SODELPA MP Ro Teimumu Kepa today asked representatives of the Sigatoka Town Council if there was a rush to construct Cuvu Market in 2018 because it was an election year.

While presenting to the Public Accounts Committee on the 2018-2019 Audit Report on Municipal Councils, the Acting CEO of the Sigatoka Town Council Anand Pillay stated that they did not tender for capital works that was carried out for Cuvu Market.

He says they incurred a cost of more than $119,000 for Cuvu Market.

Ro Teimumu then asked the Acting CEO why there was a rush to construct Cuvu Market.

She says maybe there was pressure on the Sigatoka Town Council to get all of it done within a certain timeframe.

The Acting CEO of the Sigatoka Town Council says they constructed the market as soon as possible because the safety of the vendors that sell along Queens Highway was at risk.
