Na Marama Bale na Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Teimumu Kepa, Vunivalu na Tui Kaba, Ratu Epenisa Cakobau and the Turaga Bale na Tui Cakau, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu are amongst the six nominees to take up the Great Council of Chiefs Chairperson position today.

Speaking at a press conference, Minister for i-Taukei Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu says the three ex-officio members include President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, the Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, and the Minister for iTaukei Affairs.

As the reinstated GCC has it's first meeting today, the new GCC will vote for it's own Chairperson.

The 51 members of the GCC will elect the Chair and the Vice Chair.

Namosi will not be part of the GCC meeting and the Minister for i-Taukei Affairs says that they respect the decision made by the Namosi Province.

The Tui Namosi, Ratu Suliano Matanitobua is serving time in prison.

Vasu also says there will be a nominee from the Soqosoqo Vakamarama.

Vasu says only three female names have been confirmed to be part of the GCC meeting.

He says the i-Taukei Trust Fund will fund the two-day meeting at a cost of $191,000 and no taxpayers' money will be used for this event.

He adds the meeting will start at 10am at the Yatu Lau Lagoon Resort in Pacific Harbour.
