Rising fuel costs focus of Air Pacific meeting with ILO delegates
The rising fuel costs and increased competition from Australian low cost carriers was the focus of Air Pacific’s meeting with the ILO delegation.

Air Pacific spokesperson said these are the severe challenges the company now faces which they discussed with the delegation last week.

The spokesperson said company officials also reiterated what they have publically noted in recent weeks regarding the company’s efforts to date and their continuing impasse with labor unions to implement critically necessary changes to unsustainable collective bargaining agreements.

The ILO delegation met with Air Pacific CEO Dave Pflieger following the invitation by the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama to speak to the senior management of Air Pacific and the Fiji Sugar Corporation to brief them on what the essential industries in Fiji are currently going through.

However, the ILO office in Suva confirmed the delegation could not meet with FSC due to time constraints.

A statement will be issued from the International Labour Organization as a response from the Director General in relation to the report on Fiji.
