People will soon be rewarded by the government for taking photos and videos of people littering in public.

The Environment Ministry will soon start a ‘Name and Shame’ campaign to address this issue.

Minister for Environment, Parveen Bala made this announcement at the Suva Civic Auditorium while speaking during the National Environment Oratory Competition.

He says he has directed his ministry to review the current litter legislation and come up with a clear approach.

However Bala says in the interim, they will include a campaign where in phase one members of the public will be asked to send photographs and videos of those littering to a designated unit within the ministry.

He adds in phase two people’s names and photographs will be published in the ‘Name and shame’ campaign.
