The Fiji Roads Authority has confirmed that a team has been deployed to check the Nailawa Bridge in Tailevu after the village bridge collapsed yesterday due to heavy rain and rising water levels.

FRA says initial assessments have been completed, and restoration work will begin as soon as the water recedes and it is safe for machinery to access the site.

They say a digger will be transported from Suva to assist with reinstating the crossing.

The authority says it remains committed to fully restoring access for the Nailawa community once weather conditions improve and it is safe for engineers and contractors to proceed.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Rural Development, Ro Filipe Tuisawau says his ministry is working closely with FRA on the damaged infrastructure.
